Trying the Demo Production

The It's a Wonderful Life demo: a simulated USS import, a six-step tour of the finished show, and what you can and cannot change there.

Where It Starts

On Home, the Recent Productions card opens with Start the Demo Project, marked Demo. Click it and the Full Feature Demo (5 min) window opens on Frank Capra's 1946 It's a Wonderful Life: 67 shoot days, 168 scenes, 193 crew and 59 cast. It has two buttons. Start the Demo runs the whole thing from the import. Skip to Results drops you into the finished show.

The Import, Played Back

Start the Demo opens the USS tab of the Import page. The Movie Magic and G-Casper tabs are switched off while it runs. The import is played back from a sample file, so it creates nothing in your account.

  • Click the dropzone. Select USS File offers one file, USS_Sample_Wonderful-Life.uss. Click Select This File. The Download link beside it saves a copy, if you want to open a real USS file yourself
  • Click Begin Import and let the log run
  • The board list offers First Pass, Second Pass and Final Schedule. Only Second Pass (67 shoot days) can be picked in the demo
  • Pointers ask you to turn on Auto-Draft Scene Durations & Actor Call Times, then Split long scenes for lunch. Once Auto-Draft is on, Import Production waits for the lunch split
  • Click Import Production. The summary reads Imported: It's a Wonderful Life. Go to Production opens the demo show on the Days tab, and the tour begins

The Tour

A panel headed Demo Production sits at the bottom right and walks six steps. Next and the back arrow move between them, and each step takes you to its tab.

StepTabWhat it points at
1. Smart Shoot ScheduleDaysThe 67-day schedule the import built
2. Auto-Drafted Call SheetsCS FrontA drafted sheet for every day. The ◀ ▶ arrows at the top browse them
3. One-Click Crew ImportCrewBringing a crew list in from a file
4. Production BrandingGlobalsTitle art and logos on the call sheet header
5. Production-Wide DefaultsGlobalsThe settings every call sheet reads
6. Exhibit G, Built AutomaticallyExhibit GThe SAG time report drafted from the sheet
Tip: Step 3 waits for you. Next reads Waiting… until you run the crew import: File → Import from File on the Crew tab, then Select This File on the demo crew list. That import is played back too.

Moving Around the Tour

The − button folds the panel into a pill that shows where you are, such as Demo Production (3/6). Click the pill to open it again. The X leaves the tour. Finish on step 6 ends with two buttons: Import My Schedule, which opens the Import page for your own show, and Keep Exploring, which closes the panel and leaves you in the demo.

Skip to Results goes straight to CS Front of the demo show, with the crew list already in place and no tour. The Resume Demo button in the banner starts the tour at step 1 whenever you want it.

A Shared, Read-Only Show

Everyone who opens the demo opens the same production, so it is read-only. An amber banner across the top says so: Demo Mode: Exploring "It's a Wonderful Life". This is a read-only production. Every tab opens and every menu works. Nothing you change is saved. The first time you try, a Demo Mode window explains why, with Start a Real Project and Keep Exploring the Demo. Tick "Got it, my changes to the demo won't be saved. Let me play around!" and it stops interrupting you on this browser.

  • Resume Demo picks the tour up at the step you left, or at step 1 if you had finished it
  • Start Your Own Project opens the Import page
  • Exit returns you to Home

Coming Back Later

Once you have started the demo, it stays in the production switcher, so you can return to it without going through Home.
