Lodging and Transpo Maps: Hotels, Base Camps and Morning Runs

Lodging and Transpo each have a Map view. The Lodging map asks where the unit sleeps against every place it works, across the whole schedule. The Transpo map asks how everyone gets to base camp on one morning. Both take base camp from the Days tab. A shoot day with no base camp address cannot be a destination, and the Transpo map says so with a Set it in the Days tab button.

Every hotel with an address is pinned, and so is every base camp on the board. Drives to picks the camp the drives are measured to. It opens on the busiest camp, the one the most shoot days work out of. Pick another and the drives are measured again, so you can see how a hotel twenty minutes from week one's camp does against week three's.

• Whole schedule shows every hotel on the board. Click it and it reads D12 only: just the hotels somebody is booked into on the day in the header. Page the header to move the day
• The hotel list beside the map gives each hotel's guest count, drive time and room-nights, with cast numbers chipped under it
• Across the top: how many people are housed in mapped hotels, and the average drive weighted by head count
• Click a hotel for its bubble. The arrow in the corner opens Google Maps directions from that hotel to the chosen camp
• Not on the map lists hotels with no address, with a field to add one right there. Would not geocode lists addresses Google could not place

Switch Traffic on and every drive is forecast for a departure time. The time starts at the general crew call on that day's call sheet and can be typed over. The label beside it says which day is being forecast: the day in the header, or the next day the unit drives to that camp. Google only forecasts forward, so a day already behind you is forecast as the same weekday in the coming week. The roads are coloured only when the departure is within about an hour and a half of now, because Google draws traffic as it is right now. Further out, the label reads forecast, roads plain. The drive times are still the forecast.

The Transpo map draws every known run to base camp for one shoot day. Step through days with the arrows beside the day picker. It moves the header day too. Each person's run starts from the first thing that applies:

• The vehicle they are on that day, drawn once from where it sleeps: a parking location charted for that night, else the vehicle's Overnight Parking address
• The production hotel they are booked into
• Their own home neighborhood or address

Routes to base camp lists every run with its colour, head count, drive time and distance, and seats for a vehicle. Under it, Overnight parking lists every vehicle on the day with its address field, missing ones flagged. Working today, origin unknown lists the people who are working and have no vehicle, hotel or home on file. Add a home neighborhood or address there and they join the map.

Traffic is a switch beside the day, with a departure menu next to it: At crew call (with the time from the sheet), fixed hours from Leave 4:30 AM to Leave 8:30 AM, Leave 5:00 PM for the wrap run, or No traffic estimate. At crew call is greyed out until the day's call sheet has a crew call. Both choices are remembered between sessions. Click a run in the list and ten bars appear under it: the trip's duration cut into tenths, origin on the left, each coloured clear, slow or heavy. While the run is under way, the bar where the unit should be right now is outlined, and the outline moves on its own. Click the run again to refresh.

Rest the pointer on an address in the call sheet header, the Days tab or any address field and a card opens: a small map with the pin, and if the address is a business, its photo, name and rating. An address with no listing photo shows the Street View shot of the pin. Where Street View never drove, the card shows the map alone. The card carries the address's own actions: Open in Maps on an address field, and See on map, Edit and Find nearby on the call sheet's hospital.

Maps links on the call sheet, the mobile sheet, the emails and the itinerary all resolve the same way. The link opens the Google listing the suggestion list named, where the address was picked from it. Failing that, the pin stored with it. Failing that, the street address alone. The full text is the last resort. The full text goes last because a picked address keeps the business name in front: NJ Rep, 132 West End Ave. Searching that whole string once sent Google to the company's main theater, a mile and a half from West End Ave.
