Transpo: Vehicles, Shuttling and the Basecamp Footprint

How crew and cast get to set, where cast sit between setups, and how many vehicle spaces basecamp needs.

Five Views, One Grid

Transpo is the same grid shape as Lodging: people down the side, days across the top. The view switcher changes what a cell holds.

ViewWhat each cell holds
Crew TranspoWhich working vehicle this crew member drives or rides in
Cast ShuttlingHow this performer gets to set that day
Cast HoldingWhere this performer sits between setups
FootprintWhich trucks, trailers and facilities are on the lot
VehiclesThe vehicle list itself: capacity, driver, rate, MPG

Defaults and Exceptions

Each person carries a transpo profile: their usual shuttle mode, the working vehicle they drive, and for cast their usual holding space. The profile fills every day. A cell you set by hand overrides the profile for that day alone, which is what a location with its own green room looks like on the grid.

Tip: Set the profile first and fix the exceptions after. On a 40-day show that is two clicks per person instead of eighty.

How People Get to Set

Six modes cover almost everything a show does. The code is what prints in the cell.

Where Cast Wait

Holding is the part location managers care about, because trailers take space and rooms in a building do not.

CodeSpaceBasecamp cost
PVTPrivate RoomShares a banger trailer
SHRShared RoomTwo performers to one room
2BGDouble Banger4 spaces per 2 rooms
3BGTriple Banger4 spaces per 3 rooms
HWHoneywagon Stall4 spaces per 8 stalls
CUBCubicleShares a cubicle trailer
MHMotorhome / Star Trailer4 spaces, one performer
CHGLocation Changing RoomNone
GRLocation Green RoomNone
TENTAuthorized TentNone
Tip: The three location-provided options are the ones worth hunting for. Moving one performer out of a motorhome and into the location's own green room takes four spaces off the day.

The Footprint Total

The Footprint view lists the trucks, trailers and facilities a show carries and asks one question per day: is this on the lot. The total underneath is the number a location manager wants.

  • Every present row contributes the vehicle spaces it occupies
  • Cast holding converts into trailers at your show's ratios, rounded up to whole trailers
  • Each motorhome is one performer and 4 spaces of its own
  • Crew, cast and extras parking add one space per car
  • Location-provided holding adds nothing

Your Show's Ratios

The conversion from rooms to trailers depends on what your show actually rented. Set it once in Globals under Transpo and every day recounts.

SettingDefaultWhat it means
Private rooms per banger2A standard double banger
Rooms per cubicle trailer6Cubicle trailer capacity
Honeywagon stalls8Stalls in one honeywagon unit

Wrap days after3How far past the last shoot day they run

The Vehicle List

Vehicles come in three categories: working trucks the departments run, rentals the production pays for by the day, and personal cars. A one-click pre-populate seeds the twelve standard working vehicles, from the Art Truck to the fuel truck. Each vehicle holds capacity, driver names, pickup and dropoff addresses, a daily rate and MPG.

  • Working vehicles are assigned to crew in the Crew Transpo view
  • Rentals are drawn as possession windows the same way a hotel stay is drawn
  • Capacity drives the overload warning when more people are assigned than seats exist
Important: The overload warning counts assignments against seats. It does not know that the 15-passenger van is already half full of apple boxes. Treat it as a prompt to look, not a verdict.

Background Performers

Extras get shuttled and held like everyone else, so they appear in the Cast Shuttling and Cast Holding views and in the day cells. They never appear in Lodging and never get a stay. Their parking count feeds the extras line of the footprint.
