Cast Transpo, Shuttle Legs and Cast Holding

Painting how people get to set, opening a day into its runs, where performers wait, and where each van collects its riders.

Cast Transpo Replaced Cast Shuttling

On September 21 the Cast Shuttling code grid became Cast Transpo. The cast now get the grid the crew have: vehicles charted as bars across the days, Gets to Set and Drives beside the name, then Main Vehicle, Days, and Rate and Total for whoever sees money. Old links and saved views that said Shuttling land on Cast Transpo. The old call and wrap shuttle codes were carried over into shuttle legs, so nothing typed into the old grid was lost.

Painting Shuttle Codes

Both Crew Transpo and Cast Transpo have a Shuttle: palette after the Select button: SH Shuttle, U Uber, SR Self-Reporting, PA Private PA, RC Rental Car, CC Rides w/ Crew, and Usual. Pick one and drag across a row's days, or down across several rows. The code is painted over whatever vehicle the person is in. Usual clears the day back to their Gets to Set mode. A day on the usual round trip shows nothing. A day that differs wears its code as a chip. Up to three codes stack in one cell, and past that it reads 3+.

Tip: Shuttle codes land on shoot days only. A stroke that crosses a weekend, or runs into prep or wrap days, skips those days and paints the rest.

One Day, Leg by Leg

With Select on, click an empty day on a row. The day opens on the person's usual round trip, drawn dashed. Anything you change becomes that day's own. Each leg has:

  • Kind: Round trip, Call, Location move, Wrap or Other
  • Mode: Usual, or any of the six
  • A production vehicle, or No vehicle named
  • A time and a note
  • From and to: Default, the day's Set, a hotel from Lodging, a meeting point or lot, New meeting point..., or Type an address
Tip: Add a run offers Call, Location move, Wrap and Other. Adding a move to a round trip splits it for you: the trip becomes the call, a wrap is added, and the move goes between. Remove the last leg and the day goes back to usual.

What a Leg Does Elsewhere

A leg left on Default runs from wherever the person slept the night before (else Pickup) to set, and at wrap the other way. A leg that names a van puts the rider on that van for the day, so their bar on Crew Transpo or Cast Transpo gains that day. The van's card lists its runs per day and flags a day with more riders than seats, such as 9/8. The Grid view's Shuttle cell reads the same legs and opens the same dialog on a click.

Cast Holding

Cast Holding is a code grid. Usual Holding, beside each name, fills every work day with that performer's usual space, and you paint the exceptions on the days they differ: the location with its own green room, the day the star trailer is at the other unit. DOOD codes are ghosted into empty cells so you can see who works, and the Holding row at the bottom counts each day.

  • PVT Private Room, SHR Shared Room
  • 2BG Double Banger, 3BG Triple Banger, HW Honeywagon Stall, CUB Cubicle
  • MH Motorhome / Star Trailer
  • CHG Location Changing Room, GR Location Green Room, TENT Authorized Tent
Tip: The Usual Holding column works like spreadsheet cells. Click one, shift-click for a run, Cmd or Ctrl-click to add or drop one, then open the list from the caret: the choice is set for everything selected. Cmd-C and Cmd-V copy and paste the settings between selections.

Background in Holding

Background performers with a name or a role appear in Cast Holding under their own Background header, after the cast. Their work days come from their calls on each day's call sheet, since extras are not in the DOOD. Their holding is tracked like anyone else's, but it does not add trailers to the footprint. Extras reach the footprint through the extras parking line you set per day. They are not on the Cast Transpo grid and never in Lodging.

Parking and Meeting Points

The Vehicles view ends with Parking and Meeting Points: Name, Abbrev., Kind, Address, Used By and Notes. A row with Kind set to Parking is a yard a vehicle sleeps in, charted as a strip along a Crew Transpo row. A row set to Meeting point is where a shuttle collects people. It is offered as the end of a leg and in a vehicle's daily pickups, and never as a parking strip. New meeting point... in the day dialog adds one by name without leaving the leg.

Pickups by Day on the Vehicle Card

Click a vehicle's name to open its card. Pickups by day lists every shoot day the vehicle is out, reading Vehicle address with its standing pickup until you say otherwise. Change a day to a hotel, a meeting point or lot, or a typed address, and give it a time. The x puts the day back on the vehicle address. When several things say where somebody is collected, they are read in this order:

  • The rider's own shuttle leg on that van
  • The van's pickup for that day
  • The van's standing Pickup Address
  • The hotel the rider slept in the night before
Important: The rider's itinerary email reads this list. Set the new pickup before you press Email all, or riders get the old one.
