Conversion flow: Shooting Schedule PDF and Breakdown PDF enter the G-Casper Conversion Engine, producing a USS file and an Excel workbook

What You Get

The converter takes two PDFs exported from Movie Magic and produces two files: a USS file and an Excel workbook. Both download automatically when the conversion completes. The USS format is the industry standard for creating, managing, and sharing schedules and breakdowns. It is supported by ThinkCrew, Cinapse, and a growing list of production tools. Converting to USS gives you a file you can open, edit, and share using any USS-compatible software. The Excel workbook contains a Days Schedule sheet and a Breakdown sheet, formatted and ready to open in Google Sheets or Excel.

The Two Input PDFs

The converter reads two standard reports that every version of Movie Magic can generate: the Shooting Schedule report and the Breakdown report. No custom templates, no plugins, no additional configuration.

PDF ReportWhere to export in Movie Magic
Shooting Schedule PDFReport > Shooting Schedule > PDF
Breakdown PDFReport > Breakdown > PDF
Tip: Both reports are built-in to Movie Magic. Export them to PDF and upload both files to the converter. The matching engine works with MMS 6, MMS 7, and MMS 10.

The USS File

USS (Universal Schedule Standard) is the open industry standard for schedule and breakdown data. The USS format is how modern scheduling tools store and share productions. A USS file contains the full schedule and breakdown: all scenes, shoot days, cast assignments, locations, and element categories. You can open the converted USS file in any USS-compatible tool. Import it into G-Casper Pro to generate call sheets from day one. Open it in ThinkCrew to continue scheduling. Pass it to another AD as a complete, working schedule file.

Tip: To import a USS file into G-Casper Pro as a full production, go to Convert > Import USS. See Importing from Movie Magic for the complete flow.

The Excel Workbook

The Excel workbook has two sheets: Days Schedule and Breakdown. The Days Schedule sheet lists every scene in shooting order, grouped by shoot day, with scene number, description, location, INT/EXT, Day/Night, page count, and cast. The Breakdown sheet lists every element across all scenes, organised by category. Both sheets open in Google Sheets without modification. See Google Sheets Interoperability for more on working with G-Casper data in Google Sheets.

Your Conversion History

Every completed conversion is saved to your Conversion History on the Convert page. Re-download the USS file, Excel workbook, Shooting Schedule PDF, or Breakdown PDF at any time. Files are stored securely and do not expire.

Tip: If you update your schedule in Movie Magic, run a new conversion and download the updated files. Schedule Versioning and Re-Import lets you apply changes to a production without losing existing call sheet data.
