Moving from G-Casper to G-Casper Pro
The original G-Casper spreadsheet template was built for ADs who needed something better than a blank page. G-Casper Pro is the next step. It carries the same call sheet logic forward and adds the features a spreadsheet cannot deliver: SMS distribution to your crew, real-time collaboration, automatic weather, Day Out of Days tracking, SAG Exhibit G generation, and daily production reports. If your production data already lives in a Casper or G-Casper Excel template, you do not need to start from scratch. G-Casper Pro imports it automatically.
What Carries Over
From a recognized Casper or G-Casper template, the import brings in:
- Crew lists with departments, positions, and contact info
- Cast lists with character names and actor information
- Scene breakdowns with page counts and descriptions
- Shooting schedules
How to Export from G-Casper (Google Sheets)
Before importing, export your G-Casper file from Google Sheets:
- Open your G-Casper file in Google Sheets
- Go to File → Download
- Choose Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
- Save the file to your desktop
Import Steps
Once you have the .xlsx file, import it into G-Casper Pro:
- Create a new production in G-Casper Pro (or open an existing one)
- Navigate to the Import section from the main menu
- Select "Excel Spreadsheet"
- Upload your .xlsx file
- G-Casper Pro recognizes the G-Casper or Casper template format and maps the data automatically
- Preview the mapped data to verify crew, cast, and schedule information
- Confirm the import
Template Recognition
G-Casper Pro recognizes the column structure and layout of Casper and G-Casper templates automatically. No manual column mapping is needed. If the file does not match a known template format, the importer will say so rather than silently importing incorrect data.
After the Import
Once your data is in G-Casper Pro, you pick up where the spreadsheet left off. Your crew list and cast are ready. Add your shooting location to get live weather. Set a general crew call and let the auto-draft give you a starting point for call times. When you are ready, send the call sheet to your entire crew via SMS in one step.
