Multi-Cell Selection & Editing

Cells follow the Google Sheets model. One click selects the cell and outlines it. A second click, or a double-click, opens the editor and puts a cursor in it. That two-step is deliberate. Selecting without editing is what makes it safe to drag a range across a crew list, or hit Delete on twenty cells, without opening an editor you did not want.

Click and drag across cells to select a range. Selected cells stay highlighted so you can see the extent of the selection before doing anything to it.

There are several ways to select multiple cells:

• Click and drag across cells to select a range
• Hold Shift and click to extend your selection
• Use drag-to-extend handles to copy a cell's value to neighboring cells
• Tap and drag on touch devices for mobile-friendly selection

Once you have cells selected, you can perform actions on all of them at once:

• Press Delete or Backspace to clear all selected cells
• Copy and paste values across your selection
• Right-click for a context menu with additional options
• Type a value to fill all selected cells at once

Multi-cell selection is fully optimized for touch devices. Use drag handles and tap gestures to select and edit cells on tablets and phones. A drag has to travel about five pixels before it counts as a selection, so a tap with a slightly unsteady thumb still registers as a tap. Once a drag selection starts, page scrolling is suppressed until you lift off.
