What Are Relative Call Times?

Relative call times are expressed in relation to the General Crew Call, not as absolute clock times. Instead of '6:30 AM' for Hair/Makeup, you write 'Call-30' (30 minutes before crew call). When the General Crew Call changes, all relative times adjust automatically.

Tip: Relative call times are an industry standard for good reason. They save hours of manual updates when schedules shift.

Relative Call Time Formats

G-Casper Pro understands several relative time formats:

FormatMeaningExample (7 AM Crew Call)
CallSame as General Crew Call7:00 AM
Call-1515 minutes before crew call6:45 AM
Call-3030 minutes before crew call6:30 AM
Call-1:001 hour before crew call6:00 AM
Call-1:301 hour 30 min before crew call5:30 AM
Call+3030 minutes after crew call7:30 AM
Call+1:001 hour after crew call8:00 AM
Call+2:002 hours after crew call9:00 AM

When to Use Relative vs Absolute Times

Choose the right format for each situation:

Use Relative Call Times WhenUse Absolute Times When
The person's call depends on crew callThe time is fixed regardless of crew call
You want automatic adjustmentsYou need a specific, unchanging time
Setting department or position callsFor transport pickups at specific times
Makeup calls relative to set callHospital locations or external appointments
Tip: Most crew should be on relative calls. Only use absolute times when there's a specific reason the time can't flex with the schedule.

Department-Level Relative Calls

You can set relative calls at the department level, which then applies to everyone in that department:

  • Hair/Makeup department: Call-30 (everyone in H/M arrives 30 min early)
  • Locations department: Call-1:00 (location team arrives 1 hour early)
  • Catering: Call-1:30 (breakfast needs to be ready before crew arrives)
  • Individual crew can still have their own override if needed

How G-Casper Pro Displays Times

On the printed call sheet, you can choose how relative times appear:

BothCall-30 (6:30 AM)
Tip: Showing both formats helps experienced crew understand the relative timing while giving everyone the actual clock time they need.

Changing General Crew Call

When you change the General Crew Call for a shooting day, G-Casper Pro recalculates all relative times. Absolute times remain unchanged. Before confirming, you'll see a preview of how the change affects everyone's call time.
